The different types of challenges on United Heroes

United Heroes offers you several challenge mechanics to match every style of engagement: individual, team (competitive) or collective.

Each type of challenge is designed to drive participation, encourage physical or mental activity, and create a positive dynamic between colleagues.

Discover all the available mechanics below, sorted by participation mode.

πŸ“Œ Good to know: depending on the format, employee enrollment is either voluntary or automatic (auto-enroll). This will be specified in each drop-down below.

πŸ’ͺ On your own

In these challenges, each user takes part individually and tries to meet a personal goal.

  • Solo challenges: an individual performance for a collective contribution ⭐️

Perfect for focusing on your own activity and contributing to your team's score, Solo challenges are available to all your employees and go live every weekend, 7 at a time.
The challenges are varied and encourage employees to stay motivated, push themselves, and diversify their physical activity.
To take part, you have to sign up, then individually complete the challenge on offer to win:

    • ⚑️ bonus points, added to the points earned through activity, to their team's score

    • πŸ›‘οΈ an exclusive badge

πŸ” Enrollment: voluntary β€” each employee must sign up to take part.

    Examples:

    1. Complete 1 Running outing of 10km: add a running activity of at least 10km.

    2. Complete 2 hours of Yoga: with no limit on the number of activities, accumulate 2 hours of Yoga over the challenge period.

  • Connected Races: create your own race in a unique digital format πŸ₯‡

This individual challenge is designed to run for a short period: just a few days. As with Solo challenges, participants set themselves a minimum distance to reach (e.g. 5/10/30km, half-marathon...) with a single attempt. A prize can be offered to the winners.
A leaderboard is updated live during the race, then finalized at the end of the challenge; it can be filtered by gender, age group or country.
Activities taken into account: running, treadmill running, cycling, indoor cycling, swimming, hiking… in short, any activity measured in distance.
You decide the distance and theme of your race, to encourage your employees to push themselves. Feel free to reach out to our team for advice πŸ’‘

To take part, you have to sign up, then individually complete the challenge on offer to:

    • πŸ“ˆ appear in the final leaderboard

    • πŸ›‘οΈ win an exclusive badge

πŸ” Enrollment: voluntary β€” each employee must sign up to take part.

    Examples:

    1. From December 1 to 3, run 10 km as fast as possible: log a Running activity of at least 10km, only one attempt allowed, no manual activity.

    2. From December 1 to 3, cover 50 km by bike: cover 50 km as fast as possible without a break, only one attempt allowed, no manual activity.

  • Instant Wins: several chances to win a reward πŸ€

Designed to motivate multiple activities of the same type, Instant win challenges are available to all your employees.
Their special feature: your employees can restart the challenge as many times as they like (until the end date, as long as they haven't already won a prize on this challenge), and find out whether they've won or lost immediately after each attempt.
The challenges and prizes are varied and encourage employees to push themselves and diversify their activities.
To take part, you have to sign up, then individually complete the challenge on offer to win:

    • 🎁 the prize(s) on offer

🀝 Team Battle

Here, users take part on behalf of their team - the one chosen when their account was created. The goal is to contribute collectively to reaching the top spot on a leaderboard.

  • A collective challenge to get participants from the same team moving together πŸ‘₯

Ideal for setting up a competition between teams for a key moment or a specific event, group challenges are available to all your employees; you choose the goal and the theme. It's a competition between the teams already present on the platform β€” countries, cities, departments, business units…
Their special feature: you can choose which teams do or don't take part in the challenge.
To take part, you can automatically enroll (or not!) all users who belong to the included teams, to win:

    • πŸ›‘οΈ an exclusive badge

    • 🀝 a collective commitment to a cause that matters to you (a donation to a charity, etc.)

πŸ” Enrollment: automatic possible (auto-enroll) β€” you enroll the relevant teams yourself, with no action required from users.

    Examples:

    1. Reach 400,000 points over the course of the challenge: with no limit on the number of activities, accumulate as many activities as possible during the challenge period to reach the goal.

    2. Reach 50,000 walking/running points over 7 days: collectively accumulate at least 50,000 walking or running points during the challenge period.

  • These let you create small teams, called Squads, to compete in a small group among colleagues (4 per squad is often recommended, but this setting is adjustable).
These challenges have no distance or points target to reach: the goal is to push yourselves by accumulating as many points as possible. Squad challenges are available to all your employees; a squad leaderboard is available.

These challenges are perfect for building stronger cohesion among your employees, and especially for mixing users who aren't on the same teams. There's no limit on the number of participants per squad.
To take part, you need to create or join a squad, and accumulate points with your squad to win:

    • πŸ›‘οΈ an exclusive badge

πŸ” Enrollment: voluntary β€” each employee must create or join a team to take part (no auto-enroll). Our article dedicated to Squad Challenges in our User FAQ covers the full mechanics.

    Examples:

    1. Walk as a squad: rack up as many steps as possible in a week.

    2. Run as a squad: with no limit on the number of activities, cover as many kilometers as possible over the challenge period.

  • This is a Squad challenge, but you determine the squads ahead of the challenge (by affinity, theme, region, etc...).

πŸ” Enrollment: voluntary β€” the squads are already created and each employee must choose and join a squad to take part (no auto-enroll).

    Example:

The regional battle: for 2 weeks, join one of the existing Squads: North, South, East, West.

🌍 All Together

In these challenges, everyone works towards the same collective goal, to reach an overall threshold and move a shared counter forward.

  • A collective challenge with an unlimited goal to get all participants moving together πŸ‘₯

Perfect for celebrating a cause, or an anniversary for example, group challenges are available to all your employees; you choose the goal and the theme.
Users try, as a team, to do their best on a proposed challenge together.
To take part, you can automatically enroll all users who belong to the included teams in this challenge, to win:

    • an exclusive badge

πŸ” Enrollment: automatic possible (auto-enroll) β€” you enroll the relevant teams yourself, with no action required on their part.

    Examples:

    1. Reach 400,000 points over the course of the challenge: with no limit on the number of activities, accumulate as many activities as possible during the challenge period to reach the goal.

    2. Reach 50,000 walking/running points over 7 days: with no limit on the number of activities, accumulate at least 50,000 walking or running points during the challenge period.

  • Several entities (or the whole company) take part in a collective goal, often linked to a donation or a solidarity fund.

    Strength in numbers!

πŸ” Enrollment: automatic possible (auto-enroll) β€” as with group challenges, you can turn on the auto-enroll option to automatically enroll the relevant teams/entities (usually turned on in practice), or leave enrollment voluntary if the option isn't checked.
